Seequartier Bregenz

We got invited to develop concepts to stage the construction site of Seequartier Bregenz, an urban development project next to the Lake of Constance. We came up with three approaches to create a holistic experience for the public.

UMME GÜCKSLA – PEEK OVER THAT FENCE
A site fence denominates a temporary boundary, barrier or safeguard of a construction site. The site fence generally serves as blinds as well, thus exciting the curiosity of passersby. This sets the starting point for our considerations to unveil the site fence with a series of installations. Next to the real view at the current construction process interesting insights are given with the help of 3D blueprints in the form of holograms, augmented reality overlays connecting the future and the now, a 3D mapped architecture model or a virtual reality tour.

ARRANGEMENT FOR A QUARTET WITH EARTHMOVER, EXCAVATOR AND CRANE
A construction site is a sound world on its own. The noise form bulk material blends in with rhythmic metallic sledge hammers creating immense soundscapes. During the building shell phase an avant-garde concert played by professional classic or jazz musicians, electronic synthesizers, a builders’ amateur choir and construction machinery will create an unique experience never heard before. But the staging does not limit itself to the auditive. The visual component will be staged theatric as well. The performance builds a bridge to the Kulturstadt Bregenz and the Bregenzer Festspielhaus, which is situated just a stone’s throw away.

CAPTURE EVERYTHING – BIG DATA VISUALIZATION
High-grade optimized logistical processes are the core of a construction site. Tons of material is moved. A big number of specialists and construction machinery work on a precise and strict timetable. Data is captured, analyzed and optimized to a large extent: number of truck loads, mileage, shored material, consumed energy, weather and temperature, days to completion, beverage consumption per worker, construction process etcetera. This data will be processed graphically and displayed on various outlets

  • LED billboards which are spread over the construction site and can be viewed from outside
  • a website with a visual presentation of all the data
  • an augmented reality app which exposes the data according to the viewing direction
